Micky van de Ven Brace Ends The Toffees' Run at Brand New Stadium

The Tottenham defender scored on two occasions as Tottenham extended their winning streak on the road in the Premier League and delivered Everton their first defeat at their new home.

But the video assistant referee stepped in, advising Craig Pawson to check the score on the screen and the referee ruled that the winger and Iliman Ndiaye were in an illegal position and had interfered with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

This victory elevates the manager's team up to third in the Premier League, five points off north London rivals and leaders Arsenal.

Everton stay in 14th position and sit six points ahead of the relegation zone.

Tottenham analysis: The defender fulfils role at each end of the field

After a uninspiring weekday display in the Champions League against Monaco, where they managed a only attempts on target, Frank opted for the French striker up front instead of former Toffees player the Brazilian.

The new arrival was unable to influence the game before being substituted for the substitute after 60 minutes on the pitch, but it emerged he proved unnecessary in the final outcome.

Everton's new home had been a happy hunting ground, but it appears the novelty may have worn off slightly and fans headed to the gates after the midfielder's third for Tottenham.

The break in the team's winning streak at home will not be a massive worry for the manager, but their attacking woes will be.

Beto and the other striker - the Everton's two recognised strikers - had netted only one league goal combined before the weekend's match.

And they were failed to add to that poor tally on a wet and gloomy evening on Merseyside.

Beto's performance was epitomized when he chose to overhead kick a golden opportunity from close range, despite having space and time to readjust for a more conventional attempt that would have tested the keeper.

The substitute, too, was unable to influence the game after coming on for the starter in the second half.

It was not for a shortage of chance. The majority of the home side's attacks came through Grealish and Ndiaye, who tirelessly whipped dangerous balls into the Tottenham box.
